ANTON CORBIJN

Anton Corbijn - Dutch photographer music video and film director.

The visual history of popular music hasn’t been the same since A. Corbijn took a path to photographing musicians. Recently barrowed book introduced me not only with his work but open for me complete new spectre to people I already know.

My first and mine theme for my Diploma is to capture perfect portrait of my daughter but in complete different setting with complete different meaning. That’s how I understand A.Corbijn`s work is about. If you look through his photographs with all celebrity’s .. they just an ordinary people, natural, open, without any mask what our society always try to put.

My biggest fear always is that I'll photograph an idea rather than a person... So I try to be quite sensitive to how people are. Anton Corbijn

A.Corbijn atmospheric, often melancholy black and white pictures have had an immense influence on portrait photography in the international media. A glittering spectrum of great names combining the two elements – the creative energy of the people decisively involved in shaping the spirit of our times, and Corbijin`s eye – seeing through pose, image and glamour.

A.Corbijin uses a Leica and a Hasselblad, preferring film to digital.

~“For a good picture, I don’t need all that information….Striving towards perfection, but not getting there is how I like photography to be.”~

One of his interviews Corbjin admit that the main process is kept lively by shooting handhold, moving as he goes and accepting that not everything will be perfectly lit or even exactly in focus. But he’s a “freak” for accuracy at the developing stage, ensuring the grain of the print is pin-sharp.

~“Somehow within that framework you can get imperfect pictures but they work perfectly,” he says.~

And as you can see they are. Whether it was chance or not that led Anton Corbijn into a photographic career it seems Corbijn’s distinctive photographic style has been shaped by his desire to portray reality as it really is.

A.Corbijn’s pictures these normally unapproachable celebrities pose as the world has never seen them before- cold, vulnerable, gentle and sentimental all at the same time – in a romantic spirit that is photographers own signature.

In Corbijns photos, his subjects seem distracted- pictured as serious people, caught in quiet moments, far removed from their high- powered stage personas. Given the choice, Corbijn would almost always shoot a subject outside of a studio in available light, even if it’s against a plain white wall. The main strength of his pictures is the mood and feel he get out of the people that he meet.

After all those articles, photographs, what is so inspiring, just one wish, to do, to shoot, but probably never even close to be such a work, but with all what we got  all chances is ours.

New Year new start…!!... Finishing off my Level 3 Certificate in Photo Imaging I’m moving towards to my desirable Level 3 Diploma in Photography and Photo Imaging.  To achieve that, I need complete another Certificate unit, at Level 3.

7512-03

205         Photo imaging equipment and materials (complete)
310         Photo image output (complete)
211         Photo image presentation (complete)
212         Working to a photo imaging project brief (complete)
Optional units
305         Photo image capture (to be completed)
307         Location photography (complete)

Coming back to complete my diploma I`ll be working on:

7512-93

Level 3 Certificate in Photo Image Capture an Manipulation

What consist of two main units:

305         Photo image capture

215         Digital image Manipulation

For 305 unit I`ll be producing set of images fallowing two chosen themes, providing my research and influences considering intension and purpose of the images. I already chosen one theme before, but went for the London instead leaving this one for end of the course.
My main role model will be my daughter. I planning to make some sort of short picture story, what involves influences from horror film The Ring. And as it involves lots of Photo shop,  unit 215 comes as very useful. I`ll be working in the studio as well as an outside, so all that involves change of equipment, capture methods and different sources of the light.  It will be great conclusion of all assignments what I done before, making my work in higher level.
I’m not quite sure about my second theme, I had some thoughts already and probably I`ll go for still life through the macro.

Till everyone is trying out new addition to communication Edmodo, I am happy to finish my blog and continue posting here. Very hope I`ll have some new followers as well.

Health Safety in Photography

Photography - great profession and also a fascinating hobby. Nothing can be more gratifying than knowing that you have captured a passing, fleeting memorable moment and preserving its memories forever in pictures.
On the other hand, while photography is fun and fulfilling, photographers need to be aware of the health issues and risks associated with taking pictures. Especially in location photography, when you are out and about around different places, you need to be prepared with all health and safety issues what can occur. Or you taking pictures high in the mountains or practising skills in urban locations every place can be hazardous and came with own danger.
When I was taking photos by the cost I came across with lots of obstacles in my way. Splashing water - steep rocks and cliffs, you have to be very care full working location like this, it can not only damage your equipment but also lead you to some accident. Sometimes when you get carried on with some beauty of the scene is so easy not realise the danger. Also in city’s you had to be aware of people around you, upcoming traffic etc. Weather as well can bring different issues, so make yourself prepared with warm change of clothes, water and first aid kit when leaving house to fallow the road to the sunset. Looking after your equipment and take great care of yourself while taking stunning photographs.
